AUTHORS
McWhirter is a national reporter for The Wall Street Journal, based in Atlanta. He is the author of Red Summer: The Summer of 1919 and the Awakening of Black America. He graduated from Hamilton College and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. He has been a Thomas J. Watson fellow in East Africa and a Nieman fellow at Harvard University.
Elinson is a national reporter for The Wall Street Journal, based in California, who writes about guns and violence. He grew up on a dirt road in upstate New York, graduated from St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and worked as a chimney sweep. Elinson has also written for the Center for Investigative Reporting and The New York Times Bay Area section.
The two received MacDowell fellowships to complete this book.
