Leonard Peltier, a Native American serving consecutive life terms in prison for the 1975 killings of two FBI agents, had a parole hearing this week. Peltier, 79 is in poor health but it is unlikely he will get paroled. Peltier, once an activist in the American Indian Movement, hasn’t had a parole hearing in years. Supporters have long contended Peltier was wrongly convicted, but a jury found him guilty and courts have repeatedly upheld those convictions. As detailed in American Gun: The True Story of the AR-15, the case is important in the gun's history because FBI agents Jack Coler and Ronald Williams were killed by multiple rounds fired from an AR-15. The agents, armed with handguns, didn’t have a chance. The murders were the first time federal agents were killed in the line of duty by someone using an AR-15.
