The first epigraph in our forthcoming American Gun: The True Story of the AR-15 is from J. Robert Oppenheimer. We had no idea a movie about Oppenheimer was in the works when we chose the quote. We liked his remark for what it said about technology and society.
Inventors create objects for a particular purpose and put them out into the world. But once out in the world, the inventions are used in ways the inventor never anticipated.
