On June 2nd, 2023 - recognized in the US as National Gun Violence Awareness Day - Rep. Robert Menendez (D-NJ) introduced a package of "gun violence prevention" policies to the Senate. This package included the reintroduction of the 3D Printed Gun Safety Act, federally prohibiting the production and sale of so-called "ghost guns."
Co-author Zusha Elinson details the emergence and production of such "ghost guns" in his 2022 article for the WSJ, "Ghost-Gun Firms Find New Ways to Sell DIY Weapons as U.S. Rule Takes Effect" . The unregulated production and sale of AR-15s and similar semi-automatic weapons has only grown since 2018, bringing up crucial questions surrounding federal regulation of the production of such weapons.
